Sandbridge Celebrates LIVESTRONG WEEKEND
A Dolphin's Promise hosted a series of events the weekend of May 10th to celebrate the Lance Armstrong Foundation's National Livestrong day. The weekend kicked off with a fundraising dinner at the Baja Bayview lounge hosted by Jim Reeve. Guests were treated to a fabulous seafood steamer dinner as well as fun silent auction. Our guests of honor included Greg Lee, CFO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, our Mayor Meyera Oberndorf and many Sandbridge supporters. Prior to the dinner, the Mayor presented to Greg Lee an official proclamation declaring May 13, Livestrong Day in Virginia Beach. Greg was also honored wih the official "key to the city" presented by Mayor Oberndorf. Our many thanks go out to Jim Reeve and his staff for putting on a fabulous evening for everyone while helping to raise thousands of dollars. The following morning at sunrise runners and walkers took part in "The Run for the Dolphins" put on by Anne Gassett and Aimee Kram. Runners were encourage to wear yellow and donate money to the LAF while enjoying a beautiful sunrise on the beaches of Sandbridge. Greg Lee attended this event and gave an inspiring pep talk prior to the run. A great time was had by all. Anne's event raised over $700 dollars for the LAF.
Livestrong weekend was capped off by an inspiring luminary walk at sunset on the beaches of Sandbridge. Luminaries sponsored in memory and in honor of individuals stretched for a mile south on the beaches. The many v olunteers helped to spell out LIVESTRONG in giant letters with luminaries . The event was captured from the skies in a police helicopter by Jeff Sheats and Greg Lee. It was wonderful to see the hundreds of people who attended the event and brought their children and friends from not only Virginia Beach but also Chesapeake Norfolk and Portsmouth.
A Dolphin's Promise would like to make this an annual event in Sandbridge. As always, we welcome people who want to be involved and be a part of this wonderful weekend. We would like to thank the many people who made this weekend such a success. A special thanks to event organizers Fred Greene, Jeff and Sharon Sheats, Jim Reeve, Judy Donahue, Anne and Bill Gassett, Aimee and Greg Kram, our "Bunko Girls", Tammy and Cris Miller,Alex Benshoff and the many volunteers and neighbors who stepped in to help in any and everyway possible.
