After a hiatus of nearly 20 years, the 10th Annual Baja Surf Contest was held on October 15th with outstanding surfing conditions. After being postponed from the previous week due to weather the participants, organizers, and spectators were blessed with sunny skies and surf ranging from 3-6ft. There were 60 contestants surrounded by family and friends of this community.

Organized by Jim Reeve, and the legend himself, Ben Lane (pictured left), Courtenay and James Barton, Nancy Underwood, Kevin Wong, Pat and Amy Barton, Gina Little a great time was had by all. The contest ended with an awards ceremony hosted by the Baja and Jim Reeve. The proceeds of the contest went to “A Dolphin’s Promise” a Sandbridge based non-profit whose goal is to raise $1 million for cancer research.

The contest began in July of 1976, organized by Ben Lane and Doug Wilkins as a part of a bicentennial celebration during the 4th of July weekend in Sandbridge.
